How much sod is on a pallet

Sod is sold by the pallet, and a pallet is whatever the farm cuts it as — the same three sizes come up again and again, and the weight swings by half with the water in it.

How much sod is on a pallet? 400 to 500 square feet, most often 450 — 45 rolls of 2 × 5 ft or about 169 slabs. It weighs about 2,200 lb as delivered, 1,500 lb dry and up to 3,000 lb soaked.

How many square feet in a pallet of sod

Ask the farm which size they cut: the pallet count for a lawn changes by a quarter between a 400 and a 500.

How many pallets fit on a pickup or trailer

A pallet as delivered weighs about 2,200 lb. A half-ton pickup is rated for 1,500 to 2,000 lb, so a whole pallet is over its limit — haul the rolls loose instead, half a pallet at a time. A tandem-axle landscape trailer takes about 2 pallets, and a flatbed delivery truck 6.

Stacked sod heats from the inside; a pallet that smells sour or feels warm in the middle is already dying. Order for the morning you will lay it. The sod calculator turns the lawn into pallets, rolls and weight.

Sod pallet questions

How many pieces of sod in a pallet?

169 slabs of 16 × 24 in on a 450 sq ft pallet, or 45 rolls of 2 × 5 ft.

How much does a roll of sod weigh?

About 49 lb fresh for a 2 × 5 ft roll cut from a 2,200 lb pallet, and a 16 × 24 in slab about 13 lb. Thinner-cut retail rolls weigh less — 15 to 30 lb — and dry sod can weigh a third less.

How many pallets of sod do I need for 1,000 square feet?

Three: 1,000 sq ft plus 5% for cuts is 1,050, and even on 500 sq ft pallets that is 2.1, which rounds up to 3. Buy loose rolls for the last part-pallet if the farm sells them.

Can I pick up a pallet of sod in a pickup truck?

A half-ton pickup is rated for about 1,500–2,000 lb and a moist pallet is 2,200 lb. Load rolls loose, half a pallet at a time, or have it delivered.
